Norwegian Rice Porridge

(Risgrøt / Risengrynsgrøt)

Risgrot is a creamy porridge served throughout Norwegian homes most of the year. Leftovers can be used for Riskrem, porridge with whipped cream folded in, which is a traditional Christmas dessert served cold. A dollop of butter, a spoonful of sugar, and a dusting of cinnamon on top make it ready to serve.

It is tradition to hide a whole almond in the pudding for a family member to find. It is told that whoever finds the almond receives a prize or will marry in the coming year.
